It was in 1985 that the Partington Family decided to turn a building which had been the winter quarters of the Blackpool Tower Circus into an indoor flat-green bowling centre. The circus ring and the stalls for the animals formed the basis of the new centre which was opened in October 1985 and contained five rinks. Facilities including a coffee shop and bar were also provided in the complex.
In 1995 work started on the building of additional rinks to extend the Bowling Centre to seven rinks. This was completed in 1996.
Partington’s have invested heavily over the years in the bowling centre. Initially purchasing a fully electronic scoreboard and scoring system. This state of the art visual display enables bowlers to clearly see up to the minute match scores. More recently its green bowls carpet was replaced by the famous “Blue” Pro-Weave carpet as seen at the World Bowls Tour Indoor Championship Rink on television. Newton Hall is only the 4th bowling centre in the U.K. to have had this installed and we’re very impressed with the results. Our customers, used to the traditional green for so long have welcomed the change and feel it’s a fresh and modern idea.
Following on from this Newton Hall Bowling Centre has since been chosen to host the Co-operative Funeral Care International Open 2013, more details on the right of this page or click here. This prestigious event will be televised live and preparations are well underway.
As well as many of our members playing the sport for social reasons, we have a very rich and impressive team and player pedigree. As a club they are proud to have won the following competitions:
2003 & 2007 - Egham Trophy
2007 - All England Mixed Club Champions
2008 - All England Champion of Champions

2010 - British Isles Triples Champions
2012 - England Mixed Fours Champions
The club also boasts three England players and four England National Champions and has a wide variety of up and coming bowlers.
With the demise of the Blackpool Borough Indoor Bowling Club, Newton Hall Indoor Bowling Centre is now the biggest national bowling centre in Lancashire
